Brains

You might think that the ability to connect your brain to your car is science fiction, but Nissan is making it happen.

Nissan’s brain-to-vehicle, or B2V, technology begins with a prototype skullcap designed to measure brainwaves. A test driver puts on the cap and drives normally. The cap measures brainwaves, which are compared to the actions taken by the driver. Soon, the cap can start to anticipate what the driver intends to do by processing these brainwaves and, eventually, can assist the driver in performing these actions.

The B2V skullcap isn’t a step for self-driving technology; it’s intended to make driving safer and a little bit more enjoyable for people who want to be involved in their commute. By learning driver habits and connecting these to brainwave output, B2V can help hit the brakes, respond more quickly on the throttle, and turn more smoothly. Overall, B2V can increase driver response time by between 0.2 to 0.5 seconds. This may sound like no time at all, but in the case of an accident, a fraction of a second can make a life-or-death difference.

You can’t connect your brain to your car – yet. But at Bill Seidle Nissan, we have a plenty of cutting-edge vehicles to choose from, whether you’re looking for a sporty SUV or a luxurious sedan.
