Service Warning Lights

Common Dashboard Warning Lights

There are plenty of benefits to servicing your vehicle at the dealership, many of which involve saving money and driving with peace of mind. From manufacturer-trained technicians to genuine parts, the benefits of servicing at the dealership dramatically outweigh the costs. Check out some of the benefits you could be taking advantage of when you stop in to have your vehicle serviced!

Check Engine

The Check Engine warning light looks like an actual engine. The three protruding flat surfaces are the giveaway. More often than not, the Check Engine light requires servicing by a professional technician with access to a scan tool.

Fortunately, there are a few things you can do to fix the light yourself. First, make sure the gas cap is properly sealed. A loose gas cap won’t properly maintain pressure and can be a cause for the warning light to flicker on. The second option is to check the spark plugs and plug wires. If they’re fairly old, try replacing them.

ESP Fault

The ESP Fault light looks like a triangle with an exclamation point in the middle, with an arrow circling it. This indicates that there is a problem with the traction control or electronic stability system, a major safety hazard.

There’s not much you can do to fix the problem yourself. You’re better off heading to the dealership to have your vehicle professionally serviced instead.

Lamp Out

The Lamp Out warning light looks similar to a sun drawn by a child (or non-artistic adult). It simply indicates that one of the exterior lights isn’t working properly. The most common lights affected are the headlights and taillights.

In order to find the affected light, perform a walk around of your vehicle with the lights turned on. If there are any dead bulbs, replace them and see if the light turns on. If it doesn’t, you’ll need to stop at a dealership service department to find the underlying problem.
