finance terms to help you speak the language a little easier.

Does the process of buying a new Nissan have your head spinning? To help you out, we’ve put together a glossary of common finance terms to help you speak the language a little easier.

  • Base Price: The entry-level cost of a given vehicle including all standard features and the manufacturer’s warranty, before available features are added
  • Blue Book: A shortened form of “Kelley Blue Book,” a research tool used to determine the value of vehicles on the market
  • Dealer Incentives: Programs used by the manufacturer to get rid of excess inventory or sell slow-moving vehicles. Sometimes the dealers opt to pass on these savings to buyers
  • Destination Charge: A fee that covers the cost of transporting the vehicle from the factory to the dealership
  • Extended Warranty: A contract that customers can purchase in addition to the standard manufacturer’s warranty to cover the cost of certain repairs and services
  • Sticker Price: The price on the sticker in a car window on a dealer’s lot, detailing the manufacturer’s base price, installed options, suggested price, and destination charge
  • Prepayment Penalty: A penalty fee that must be paid if a car owner pays off their car loan before the end of the agreed-upon term
