Things to Do in Hialeah, Florida

Hialeah is one of the biggest cities in FL and is slightly northwest of Doral, on the southeast side of the state. Hialeah is also called the City of Progress and has the largest Cuban population in the country at 74%, which makes up a huge portion of the city’s culture and events. Here are some of our favorite things to do in Hialeah.

Hialeah, the home of Bill Seidle's Nissan, is gradually becoming a big center for the arts as well as the place to be for Cuban culture. If you want to buy authentic Cuban goods like perfumes, dresses, and other clothing, visit Ñooo! ¡Que Barato!, a store opened in 1996 catering to Cuban exiles who wanted inexpensive items they could have found at home.

On the art side, you can visit the Garden of the Arts, a beautiful spot located in the middle of warehouses and residences where you can see paintings and murals by Cuban artists such as Xavier Cortada and Antonio Fortuna, as well as a small amphitheater, benches, and walking trails. There’s also the Leah Art District, where you can attend free events throughout the summer and view the work of the live-in artists. Another place to get your art on in Hialeah is the Milander Center for Arts and Entertainment, which hosts everything from art galleries to concerts.

If you’d rather soak in the sun, check out the Amelia Earhart Park, which sits on a 90-acre freshwater lake and is home to the Doral Watersports Complex. For food and nightlife, visit Chico’s, a 24-hour Cuban comfort food restaurant and a political hotspot that has hosted such names as Jeb Bush, and Las Tabernas de Wancho for dancing and drinks. If you’re in the Doral area and want to get a taste of the most authentic Cuban culture you can find off the island, come visit Hialeah!
