The Rogue continues to save the driver money even after buying it, as it offers a more efficient engine lineup than the one offered on the RAV4. For example, the Rogue comes standard with a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine combined with an Xtronic CVT® transmission with sport mode, which gives the crossover efficiency ratings of 26 mpg in the city, 33 mpg on the highway, and 29 mpg combined in the front-wheel drive model.1 The comparable RAV4 model also uses a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine, but is only connected to a six-speed automatic transmission, giving the RAV4 23 mpg in the city, 30 mpg on the highway, and 26 mpg combined.²

This efficiency advantage also applies to the Hybrid models of these two crossovers. The Rogue, with its 2.0-liter four-cylinder gas engine and electric motor, delivers an impressive 33 mpg in the city, 35 mpg on the highway, and 34 mpg combined.³ The RAV4 Hybrid, on the other hand, combines a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine with its electric motor and only comes with all-wheel drive, and so offers 34 mpg in the city, but only 30 mpg on the highway for 32 mpg combined.²
